Dental veneers may be an option to help you attain the appearance you desire. They are a common alternative for people who have damaged teeth, a gap between their teeth, or teeth that are misshaped.

Dental veneers are thin shells that adhere to the front of teeth, giving them a more traditionally formed appearance. Agoura Family Smiles provides patients with a number of dental veneer solutions. Consult with Dr. Castillo to determine what is best for you.

If you wish to improve the appearance of your smile, dental veneers are an easy solution. Veneers are very thin covers that are bonded to the visible portion of the tooth. They have the appearance of genuine teeth. Veneers can be used to treat a variety of dental problems, including the following:

  • Stained teeth
  • Chipped or worn out teeth
  • Crooked or misshapen teeth
  • Gaps or large spaces between teeth

Veneer Procedure

The dentist normally removes a small bit of enamel from the front and sides of the teeth to prepare them. This creates space for the veneers, which restore the natural appearance of your teeth.

The dentist takes an impression of the prepared teeth, or molds them. Additionally, the dentist determines the appropriate tint of veneer for your smile.
The impression is then sent to a dental laboratory where the porcelain veneers are custom-made to fit your teeth. This process could take many days. In the meanwhile, the dentist may provide you with temporary veneers to wear.

The dentist will then place the veneers on the teeth to ensure proper fit and contour. The teeth are cleansed and the veneers are glued to the tooth following any changes.

Additional adjustments may be made at a later date.

Before Getting Veneers

Prior to receiving veneers, your teeth and gums must be healthy. Prior to placing your veneers, your dentist can address any infection or decay.

Veneers are not usually the best option for patients who clench or grind their teeth due to the thin veneers’ susceptibility to chipping or breaking. If you grind or clench your teeth while sleeping, your dentist may recommend wearing a plastic dental night guard.

Although your dentist removes as little tooth enamel as possible during the veneer procedure, once the enamel is removed, the procedure cannot be reversed.

Veneers have a chance of becoming detached over time. New ones may be required in that situation.

Discuss your expectations and treatment alternatives with your dentist, as you would with any other aspect of your dental care. Maintaining healthy teeth and gums requires regular dental checkups.

After Veneers

Veneers are susceptible to chipping or breaking when subjected to force. Avoid biting your nails or chewing on harsh items like pencils or ice.

It may take a few days for you to adjust to how your veneers feel. However, notify your dentist if your bite feels abnormal following the placement of the veneer. He or she will make the necessary corrections prior to your departure from the office.

Brushing and flossing daily will help keep your teeth and gums clean. Under or around veneers, cavities can still form. Consider goods that bear the American Dental Association’s Seal of Acceptance. This certifies that a product complies with ADA safety and efficacy criteria.
